• Seahawks Fan 101

Before I start getting to know people in the forum, I would like to preface with my background.

I am currently a freshman at WWU who played football for four years in junior high and high school, as well as basketball, wrestling, and track at various points of my high school career. My love for football began in the 8th grade because I loved the physicality of the sport, and the fact that it was played outside. I stopped playing my senior year of high school to focus on school work and to try and branch out my interests. Even though I wasn't a player anymore, my love for the professional aspect of the game lingered.

I started really following in the 'Hawks 2008, the year that our team stopped being competitive. From that year, the most memorable game for me was Mike Holmgren's home game against the Jets in the snow, a game that my dad had the fortune of attending. I remember being very optimistic in 2009, especially after the blowout against Jacksonville in which we won by over 40 points.

In 2010 I found a hometown hero in Matt Hasselbeck. I was in the hospital in a very trying time, and reading some of his work in "All the Good in Sports" helped me not only power through an extremely difficult time, but also helped me find some aspect of religion that had been missing in my life. Because of this, I have found Hasselbeck to be my ideal sports role model: a humble, passionate player who puts others before himself. Even when I have questioned my ability to make it, I have found courage and strength in community and the fact that so many different people can unite behind a team of individuals, our home town Seahawks.

I have strayed from athletic competition in college, but I am re-discovering the passion. I have never been a great athlete, and my participation has always been for the purpose of bettering my physical state, which was admittedly poor for most of my life. However, I saw an article today on Seahawks.com that reignited my passion. It described the local player workouts that individuals could participate in.

While I will not be eligible for another two years, and I intend to become a communications major, I would still love the opportunity to work and compete with others who have the potential to be Seahawks. In two years, I want to be at that workout! I will strive to be the best that I can be, and I would like to remind myself what it means to always compete.

This is my connection to the 'Hawks, and I am now looking for ways that I can become involved with the organization.

Now, I ask, what is your Seahawks story? What is it that has tied you to this team? Do you know how to become more involved? Thanks for reading, and I look forward to becoming more involved with this community!
