Should Tavaris Jackson & Matt Flynn battle it out in camp for starter, or should Pete name one of them the starter beforehand? Or does it matter unless there's a solid o-line?

Like I said in a different thread, Brett Farve, Matt Hasselbeck, Aaron Rodgers have all been great QBs from GB...let's hope Flynn can continue that tradition! He is still young and has time to only get better!
That comment about Flynn competing with Jackson was only Carroll's foolish attempt to look good - no one ANYWHERE believes that Travesty Jackson is a starter. Flynn is instant upgrade - and you know that being the starter was one of the conditions for his signing with Seattle. This should turn out well if Carroll can keep from messing it up.
We'll know for sure when a healthy Tarvaris Jackson is still on the bench midway through the season. I'm not down at all on TJax, he got better, and so did our season as it progressed, and certainly don't think there are 31 better qb's in the league than TJax.
Release TJac, move Porter to #2 and draft a QB.
TJack has lost two starting jobs in the NFL. For those unaware, he also originally attended the university of arkansas in college and had to transfer in order to gain a starting position at quarterback. Unfortunately, the pattern suggests that Jackson can only succeed in situations of inferior competition. I am the first to admit I'm not a Fynn fan. Watching him in college at LSU was unconvincing. Bullfrog stated the success of Green Bay backups...I hope you are right, but Flynn did not sit as long as any of those guys you mentioned and his offensive coordinator from a year ago didn't push for him in Miami. His 6 touchdown game was against Detroit...Detroit. A defense that got scorched the second half of the season. I do think Porter is a diamond in the rough and could be our future. Of course, I will support the Hawks just as proudly as ever and hope I'm wrong. Hey, if nothing else...we
Cut our loss and release TJ and draft Nick Perry or Melvin Ingram at 12 and then draft Kirk Cousins at 43 to compete with Josh Portis.
Dav, you are right I think. If we count back-ups it looks like there are probably 51 better QB's in the league. Jackson is horrid and after all his years he has gotten no better. It's a dead horse in my opinion.
Don't cut TJ, but perhaps a trade if he loses the starting position? Somewhere he could have a chance to start. That would be fair to Jackson. I'm thinking the Bucs. Then bring in another QB in later rounds.
Gotta get something to get me excited again; I just read the Dolphins message boards...
I have been very unimpressed by Flynn's physical skills in all the games I have watched him play. Even the super game he had against the Lions, he didn't do anything to make me say "WOW".
He is very relaxed in the pocket (like Tom Brady) and throws the short dump passes very well. But deep passes and outs are certainly not his forte.
I still like Jackson but Tarvaris' decision making was poor last year alot of the time. BUT, that offensivie line was just awful most of the year pass blocking.
