| The Seattle Seahawks have supported
Medical Teams
International since 2003. This non-profit, and its medical volunteers,
provide health care and humanitarian aid to people affected by disaster,
conflict and poverty around the world. Among the people benefiting
from this Seahawks/Medical Teams International partnership are these
people, living in an Internally Displaced People Camp in Pader,
Uganda.
Marnie Kern and members of Medical Teams International met with
Seahawks V.P. of Community Outreach Mike Flood at the December 21st
Seahawks/Jets game, where the Seahawks helped with a fundraiser
for D.R. Congo disaster relief.
"Thank you for all of your support; it was a fun day in the
snow, celebrating the game, Mike Holmgren, and the tremendous generosity
of Seahawks fans," said Kern. "We raised $60,000 that
afternoon - wow! We later learned that this $60,000 helped Medical
Teams International leverage a $595,000 grant from the U.S. State
Department that will allow us to continue serving the Congolese
refugees for another 12 months. Without the Holmgren Family and
Seahawks' support, we would not have been able to continue serving
these people over the past several months. Without our staff and
volunteers providing much needed, quality health care to these refugees
- treating nearly 200 people a day - the State Department would
not have had confidence in our work.
"Thank you for your role in this tremendous opportunity to
care for the world's least fortunate."
